WTO Says AI Could Expand Global Trade by 37% by 2040

The World Trade Organization’s latest report predicts that AI adoption could increase global trade volumes by 34–37% by 2040, while boosting global GDP by 12–13%. The findings highlight AI as a driver of economic growth but also stress risks of inequality, since wealthier countries are better positioned to capitalize. For developing economies, the report signals urgency to build AI infrastructure and human capital. For Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states, the opportunity lies in using strong fiscal resources to become regional leaders in trade tech, digital services, and supply chain optimization.
